2016 NARI Capital CotY Grand Award Winner, Basement Under $50,000
This single family home located in Suburb of Alexandria had partially finished basement. The owner’s recently found out their son and daughter in law will be moving back with them for a while. That called to create a living space to be separate & private for them.
The existing basement had a rec-room and a lot of unfinished area. The bathroom was not well functioning and small.
First, we used an unfinished area to be the new bedroom. That required to dig out and bust through concrete wall to implant an egress window. Now this space is a legal bedroom. We had added built-ins, closet and recess lights to this room.
The old bathroom was torn out and enlarged to allow a much bigger shower stall, larger vanity and is furnished with upgraded products such as heated floor, floor and wall decorative porcelain tiles, granite top and much more…
The rec-room area was enlarged into adjacent unfinished areas. The bulkheads were removed by the way of rerouting some ducts in ceiling. Recess lights were install all over the space. Now bookcase and cabinetry were installed in numerous places both for extra storage and its decorative functions.
A new French door was installed to access the backyard patio and pool deck.
Just inside of the French doors we have brought plumbing and utilities for small wet bar/kitchenette area with sink, under cabinet fridge and microwave and cabinetry.
Our designers suggested to add a gas log fireplace to take over an unused corner with marble heart. This was a place for a large Tv and became the gathering place for all the family.
New flooring , lighting and built-ins were all added for convert this old raggedy basement to beautiful living space for Son and his wife, as well as the entire family for larger get togethers.
