PROJECT SCOPE
The owners of the 2004 Colonial with unfinished basement are a young couple with three young children
Growing family needs entertainment area
The wife is a party planner and hosts lots of baby shower and birthdays at their home
Need a child friendly area
Husband needed an office to be able to work from home
Owners are seeking an increase in natural light and a significantly improve interior design.
Wanted a weight room / exercise room
Needed a kitchenette area for parties
Mrs. wanted her own craft room to prepare party favors
Lots of storage area needed
Wanted a full bathroom with shower but nice enough to show off
Wanted a play area for the children
PROBLEM:
The biggest challenge for this project would be that there was no rear exit to the back yard
SOLUTIONS
Had to execute a 6 x 20 x 12 deep area in backyard and cut into brick and block to be able to make a breezeway and walk-up stairs, landing and back door with ½ glass to make access to basement and more lighting
Had to bust through lots of concrete to accommodate kitchen sink, bathroom, pit and ejector pump and sub pump
Relocated hot water heater and HVAC to open up adequate space which had taken much of the center space in the basement
New 18 x 19 movie theater with step up and eight leather chairs, surround sound, 130” screen and projector, blue ray, DVR and 8 in wall speakers, luxury carpeting, wall sconces and Hollywood style movie theater.
Next door a 16 x 18 office with closet, recess lights, Fios connection, internet, crown molding, double french doors with oil rubbed bronze finishes.
An 8” wide old style dark plank hardwood floor was installed in the entire space to accomplish tying the floor with the furniture.
A U-shaped kitchenette area with cherry cabinets, granite countertops, fridge, dishwasher and microwave.
Crown molding and chair rail throughout entire basement
Recessed lighting and pendant lights
30 feet of continuous closet and storage
Luxury walk in shower and full bath
Craft room with counter and storage space
Weight room designed around steel columns.
An 8 x 12 play area with a flat screen with a wii and nintendo games
Created a hide away space under the stairs for the children’s amusement
