Two young professors with their two young sons recently moved into this townhouse community in booming Merrifield District. With anticipation of kitchen remodeling in their mind, they have approached our group for assistance.
Their old kitchen was dysfunctional, a middle island that had sink and dishwasher built in to it with literally no counter space, closed off room adjacent dining room and living room was an old concept that they did not envisioned for their style of living.
The challenges were to create an open concept while maintaining the integrity of the structure, Mechanical and electrical of this home.
The wall that needed to be eliminated was load bearing and full of ducts and plumbing for above level. We have inserted structure beam to be able to carry second floor load, then moved this wall two feet into dining room to be able to create larger kitchen floor space.
The old island was now taken over with much larger square island for more storage, while the sink and its plumbing were relocated to new half wall of kitchen/ dining room space.
The south wall is home for larger cooktop, double oven and refrigerator and a lot more needed counter space.
The flooring was replaced with a very unique porcelain tiles complimenting this exotic and extraordinary Granite stone used for all counter tops, table tops and fireplace surround.
We have made a stool high square breakfast table for old family room now used for all purpose breakfast/ gathering & work space. Made out of double thick layer of same granite top has made this area extraordinary unique.
The smart use of selectively pendent lights, and surround light in conjunction with pretty backsplash has made this kitchen project one to stand tall among their category.
They now to spend a lot more time in this main level of townhome cooking, entertaining and watching over kids doing homework, or both of them working from home.
They extraordinary sage paint colors, white and coco stained cabinetry and this exotic counter tops have made our project beautiful.
