Contemporary single family house in Reston, home of recently united couple each with couple kids of their own.

Kitchen was dinky and dark according to the couple.

Blocked by couple of full wall separating kitchen from adjacent family room and dining room. No natural light, just a small window in breakfast area has been the only source of natural light.

• Poor lighting, dark cabinetry, laminated counter top, partially vinyl and wood floors  are just naming few of the existing kitchen deficiencies
• Our staff suggested an overhaul for entire first floor space by the way of removing couple interior walls( mainly bearing), closing off door to current living room and relocating dining room entrance
• The 10 ft high ceiling was blocked off by false ceiling and bulkheads and it was time to take advantage of the height
• Running Natural gas from exterior of the house to allow a professional Range was one the challenges of this project and a dream part of the wife who loves to cooks
• Build out a box bay window to add more dimension and light to kitchen and make as a bench for a casual bench seating made the kitchen to have more space for middle island
• We run all new plumbing and electrical for a contract espresso island in order to relocate sink, dishwasher, and other appliances to it
• The island is the center of attention with a contrasting white color exotic stone and three pendent lights over it
• All task, recessed and under cabinet lightings made this kitchen much brighter than ever
• The range was moved to where living entrance used to be and across the fireplace which made it a focal point and a showcase
• When dining room doorway was moved, it improved the traffic flow from front door to kitchen thorough wider opening and made room to place a 48” built in refrigerator and pantry just to the left of it
• The wasted closet space in family room was turned into a cozy butler area with wine chiller and wine racks and display cabinets
• The wood flooring in the kitchen, breakfast and the rest of the house had to be finger jointed, then per customer request stained to a very dark Java color.

This was a very difficult and time consuming task and was not easy to achieve with a single try. All floors was sanded, the water popped for few days before first layer of staining get applied, then screened (buffed) before second enhancer and fine coats could put in place. And then three coats of high gloss urethane finish

• Use of stacked painted linen cabinetry with display room above and contrasting dark granite with a very soft touch of glass mixture back splash tiles made this kitchen a delightful space to reunited this family
