Young couple lives in a colonial in Herndon wanting to remodel their kitchen. With three kids and her busy work load she no longer wanted to go down two to three level to do her laundry. The width of current kitchen was very limiting as far as placement of appliances and gaining additional storage and cabinetry.
Solution: move back the load baring wall shared between kitchen and adjacent Living room to allow placement of pantry, refrigerators and place for stackable washer and dryer. Then relocated doorway to dining room to allow better line of cabinetry and being able to relocate stove from sin wall to a perpendicular wall. This also allowed to have a much needed larger center island with built in microwave, we have to move stack of plumbing to eliminate bulkheads and gain space from couple of dead spaces in cabinetry.
On the other end of kitchen, there was a powder room that opened into the kitchen and had space to spare, we relocate the door to powder room, relocate the toilet and gained 24” of width for kitchen. This allowed us to create a hutch are in breakfast area for additional cabinetry. We have installed 7” wide board Mahogany wood floors throughout. One of biggest clients compliant was lack of lighting in this kitchen. We added recess lighting, under cabinet Halogen lighting, dimmers and multi zones. Three pendent lights for Center Island and pock lighting for cabinets add more of ambiance for this kitchen. A French galls doorways added for basement stairway to let light into dark stairway.
Now customer gets to entertain a lot more and not to carry heavy loads of laundry down to the old basement laundry room. Upgraded appliances, better traffic flow and gorgeous tumbled marble backsplash setting off the exotic granite counter top are few of highlight of this project.
