This large kitchen needed updating. There was a railing between the column and the family room that needed removing, and we reconfigured the island and wrap around cabinets to create the lower height desk area. We installed decorative lighted cabinets and bookshelves in this area as well as over the refrigerator and pantry next to it. We made a small butler pantry with wine storage and serving area right next to the doorway into the formal dining room. We also designed the new tile flooring to cover the area into the back hallway and the laundry room to bring those spaces into the kitchen visually. The homeowners also wanted plenty of outlets in the desk area to recharge phones and plug in the computer. We designed lots more cabinet storage space into this kitchen, using full height top cabinets to utilize all of the space they had. The deep black granite makes a contrast with the wood and pumpkin colored walls, as well as their black furniture, and helps tie it all together.
