Whole House
Whole House
This single family home located in prominent neighborhood of McLean, Virginia was recently purchase by this professional couple.
They saw the potentials of this property and willing to invest to explore it all.The backyard was the jewel of this property, but not well shown from the inside. The existing floor plan was a maze. The kitchen was dragged down with big bulkheads, The Arches and round fluted columns were out of style. They wanted to modernize and go to sleek look for entire job.The study was not really useful for them and the powder room separating the living room and study was not in their ideal position.
Entire color scheme was old looking; most room was dark and not lived to its full potential. We started form front and replaced the front door with glass front with Wrought Iron pattern to let light into the front foyer. An elegant crystal chandelier was hung to upscale the foyer. The flooring was replaced with a white large scale marble. Front steps were refinished to Ebony stain to match new floors.
The railing system was changed with wrought iron balusters and dark stain rails. The entire flooring was replaced with wide plank espresso finish cherry wood floors. The entrance to living room and dining room were widened to better serve the traffic flow. Endless amount of LED lighting was installed throughout all ceiling spaces for this home to better light this home.
The middle bearing wall separating Living and Study was removed by the way of structural beam, side windows were relocated to better relate to new spaces.
The powder room was relocated and upgraded to allow a large family room and conference area. Bearing walls and columns were removed and now have a continuous flow between family room and Kitchen area.
The old round fluted columns were reduced to few modernized square columns. With all these changes the entire backyard and pool area are better shown from interior this house. The old floor to ceiling stone fireplace was replaced with much sleek and modern linear stone. The old study now converted to conversation area, home to Grand Baby piano. Also has further built in wall covered with a Persian Onyx with background lights. Just fabulous!
The kitchen was revamped with taller and white custom cabinetry with a major square center Island and large scale appliances.
The dropped down box soffit with indirect lighting and couple of pendent lights outlining the center island was feature of this kitchen.
Few pocket French doors widened the entrances to dining room, basement entrance and pantry closet , all contributed to better utilize the traffic flow and capture the lights on dark spots of this home. Master bedroom was redone with wider door and better lighting. The master bathroom wasmodernized with better award winning fixtures, tiles, long vanities, added linen closets, hanging chandelier.
Kids’ rooms were all redone with new flooring, carpet, paint and trim work. From traditional to a modern theme, this home was transformed 180 degree. The choice using bold color and soft finishes made this project more that extraordinary. Designers were not holding back on using purple, bold fusion, blues and teal just to make it all pop. She like to call it “jewel of the neighborhood” and indeed it looks it.
